Migaku

How I’d introduce Migaku to someone who has never heard of it, in your learners’ own words.

❤️A personal hello to Jannik, the Migaku team and Good Maven
I know this role is about your new app, not migaku.com: real languages through short clips, one word at a time. I’d love to design it from the first screen.
To show how I think, I redesigned the Migaku homepage and sketched four screens for the new app.
I’m from Spain 🇪🇸, founder of funnels.es, and learning Japanese with my own app, Kyun. I’d love to move to Tokyo for this role.
Made for Migaku
The homepage shows how I work: every headline comes from your learners’ own words, from “Anki was always too overwhelming” to “I no longer have to wonder what I’m supposed to be learning”. The app screens are a first idea for what you’re building next. Kyun is my own language app.

Start, learn, remember, share: placement by tapping, the feed, review between clips, and a card made for TikTok.
See the app screens
The Japanese app I built for myself, launched in September: words in sentences, one new word at a time, reviewed before you forget.
Try Kyun
I designed the Migaku page from the outside, using your website, your team page and your App Store, Chrome and Trustpilot reviews. It’s a sample of my taste and process, not a pitch to redesign migaku.com. The app screens are a first sketch from your job post; the real work is the new app, built with your team.
By the way
I’m learning Japanese. I tried Anki and it wasn’t for me: too much setup, and too much time hunting for a good deck. And I’m still too early for Migaku, which really shines once you can follow native shows. So I built the app I wanted: Kyun.
It teaches Japanese in everyday sentences, one new word at a time, with spaced repetition and no account needed to start. Around 800 words, 60 grammar points and 103 kanji, all the way to N5, with a Japanese teacher who wrote the content and a guide character, Emi-sensei. I designed it, built it and launched it in three weeks.
That’s why this role feels so close to home. Your new app is for people like me: curious, busy, and not ready for native content yet. I wouldn’t just be designing it. I’d be its first user.
What you asked for
A mobile-first short-form video feed, including onboarding and placement, the core learning loop, and tap-to-learn interactions
I’ve already designed one learning loop end to end, for my own app: words in sentences, one new word at a time, then a review right before you forget. A feed of real clips is the same loop with video, and I’ve sketched four screens of how it could work.
Make complex learning science, like spaced repetition and level-adaptive content, feel effortless
In Kyun, spaced repetition is one quiet line: “Review before you forget.” No decks, no settings. That’s the bar I’d hold for the feed.
Build the brand from the ground up, translating a cheeky, energetic voice into visuals
I’ve named, branded and launched products since 2009, most recently Kyun, with its own character, Emi-sensei. I start with the words and design around them.
Design for virality: make the product and its moments share-worthy on TikTok, Reels, and beyond
I design Meta ad concepts and model their acquisition cost, so I think about the share and the scroll from the first sketch.
Own growth design, from onboarding to retention loops to free-to-premium conversion
That’s my day job at funnels.es. My last quiz funnel took booked calls from 3% to 11.6%, and Kyun has had PostHog analytics since day one.
Work closely with engineering to ship fast
I write code myself: Kyun runs on React, TypeScript and Firebase, with tests and CI/CD. Engineers get designs that were thought through for the build.
Hybrid in Tokyo (relocation available)
Yes, please. I’d love to move to Tokyo and work hybrid with the team. Until the move, I’m in Spain, so Tokyo’s afternoon is my morning, and I’m happy to start early.
You asked for case studies
The goal, the key decisions and the outcome, as your post asks.
Goal: turn website visitors into booked sales calls.
Decisions: a quiz instead of a form, conditional questions so each person only sees what applies to them, saved progress so nobody starts over, and copy written in their customers’ Spanish.
Outcome: booked-call conversion went from 3% to 11.6%.
Goal: the app I wanted as a learner: the simplest way to start Japanese, with nothing to install and no decks to hunt for.
Decisions: words taught inside sentences, one new word at a time, reviews timed right before you’d forget, no account needed to start, and analytics from day one.
Outcome: launched in September 2026, built with Codex and a Japanese teacher who created the content.
Goal: show my taste and my process before we talk.
Decisions: every headline from your learners’ reviews, your real product screens and team, lots of air, and the click-a-word highlight as the visual thread.
Outcome: see the page, and judge for yourself.
A little more about me
I started my first company in 2009. Since then, I’ve founded and sold two web design agencies, run a startup pre-accelerator in Dubai, and advised startups there on acquisition, funnels and onboarding.
At funnels.es, I build webinar, video sales letter and quiz funnels, from the copy and the UX to the code. I also design Meta ad concepts and model the acquisition costs behind them.
I use Claude Code and Codex every day. I decide what to build and why, the AI helps me build it, and I review everything before it ships. That’s how I launched Kyun in three weeks, and how this Migaku page went from first look to finished design in two days.
One of your App Store reviews says it better than I can: “I feel like a child learning to read, with a thrill of pride and excitement every time I pick out a single word I understand.” Giving that feeling to millions of casual learners, inside a feed they already love, is the most exciting design problem I’ve seen this year.
Having built a language app myself, I know how rare your starting point is: a learning engine that works, 30,000+ devoted learners, and a team of people who actually learned languages this way.
After years of building for clients, I want to join one team and build one product from zero: the product, the brand and the growth.
If this feels like a fit
I’d love 20 minutes to walk you through the homepage and how I’d approach the first version of the app.
